About CA

Chorus Abilene, Inc. (formerly known as The Classical Chorus of Abilene, Inc.) and its mission to promote choral music through performance and participation, began in 1990 with a 23 member adult chorus as the dream of Dr. Betty Karol Wilson.  This non-profit corporation now consists of approximately 130 singers, first grade through adult, in four different ensembles, from all over the Big Country.

The Classical Adult Chorus has performed with the Abilene Philharmonic, Abilene Opera Association, Mercury Baroque Ensemble, the Texas Baroque Ensemble, as well as The University of Texas Early Music Project, the Abilene Ballet, and the Abilene Community Band.  They have performed The Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Carmina Burana, Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Lord Nelson Mass, Brahms’ A German Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Bach’s Cantata #140, Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices, St. John’s Passion, Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th, and the Texas premiere of Solomon.  In addition, they have performed in New York and in Scotland and recently toured to Vienna, Prague, and Krakow and will travel to Greece in June 2011.

The first youth chorus was formed in 1993.  They have performed with the Abilene Philharmonic, the Abilene Opera Association, and the Abilene Ballet.  They have sung for Barbara Bush and hosted the Fredericksburg Children’s Choir, the Amarillo Boys’ Choir, the Manila Children’s Choir, the New Zealand Youth Chorus, the Moscow Boys’ Choir, the Texas Boys Choir, and the Vienna Choir Boys.

In addition to regularly programmed concerts, each year singers entertain and collaborate in a range of community events.  In addition, various groups have toured internationally to Scotland, England, France, Canada, Italy, the Caribbean, and Austria and will travel to Spain in the summer of 2010.

Along with our regularly seasoned programs, CA has many other opportunities for involvement including our annual Summer Camps and community Outreach Programs. The organization endeavors to enrich the lives of adults and youth from all religious, racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. The program strives to foster the personal and social growth of its members and to promote their sense of self-esteem, discipline, accomplishment, and pride.

Chorus Abilene, Inc. is a 501©3 nonprofit corporation and is not affiliated with any school, university or church.  The Chorus strives to provide audiences with a variety of beautiful music from trained choral artists and to educate and encourage the next generation of musicians.
